“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” —John Lubbock
Despite the cold week we’ve had (yes, I actually turned on my heat in June) I am so happy to see that summer has arrived. All of our classes and obligations have finally come to an end and our schedule is wide open. We are ready for slow summer days, sunshine, and freedom.
We’ve been compiling our list of things we want to do this summer. Day trips to the beach for building sandcastles or the mountains for a hike, visiting friends near and far, diving into projects that we can spend all day on if we choose, ice cream, swimming pools, sidewalk chalk, digging in the garden…the list goes on and on. But what I have been loving the most so far about our slow down moments are the opportunities my boys have had to bond and enjoy each others company. They have had endless time to engage in their imagination and really dig deep into their play. It’s been wonderful to watch. They are quite a pair and really adore each other. I’m one lucky mama.
I really like that Lubbock quote! I think I need some lazy summer days too!
