•F O U R• Presenting, my royal four year old! She spent her day dressing up and celebrating! We wrapped the day up by having a beautiful chorus of friends & family singing to her through distances near and far thanks to Zoom. 🎉 🎂 #happybirthday #zoombirthday #zoombirthdayparty #fouryearsold #mygirl

•almost• My girl’s ready to roll into four like a boss. She’s been counting down the days all week, telling everyone she talks to (mostly from a 6 foot distance) that she is soon FOUR! So exciting that tomorrow is the big day. She’s got nearly 50 people lined up to sing HBD to her tomorrow on Zoom. •A B C• My almost 4 year old has been watching her big brothers take so many @outschool classes and she kept asking when she could take a class. So I went looking for something simple she could enjoy and found this sweet class on the ABCs focusing on phonemic awareness. She was in heaven and so into it. •simple pleasures• I am new to the world of air plants. I picked up a few small ones a few months ago and wasn’t quite sure if I was doing a good job keeping them alive but then this morning I went to water one and was shocked to discover a purple bloom. •Let’s go fly a kite• Sunny, yet cold, afternoon at the beach with a perfect wind for flying a kite. We did meet friends <gasp> but everyone adhered to a 6 foot distance and parents said things like, “No, we’re not sharing today.” ☀️ 🌊 It was weird and wonderful to see other humans outside our immediate family, but new way to be together for sure. #socialdistancing #letsgoflyakite #kitesatthebeach

•Silver lining• So a lot of the adjustments to this new way of life have been hard and we’re still trying to figure out what works best for our family. But one thing that has been an absolute dream come true for this mama is the opportunity to practice with my most favorite yoga teachers from the comfort of my own home. No babysitters to pay (aside the monthly Disney+ membership to entertain my kids while I practice) and the time I save! It’s been amazing. •New Rhythm• Here’s the thing, we have been homeschooling for five years now and during this new mandatory homeschool world we are living in, people are commenting to me that we are lucky because it’s just life as usual. 📚 📚 But it is not! Under normal circumstances, being out in the world and engaging with people and our homeschool community has always been a huge piece of our education. This social distancing is what people always assume homeschooling looks like...but this is not our normal. We have never been one to sit at the kitchen table for hours at a time ticking off subjects on a schedule. ✅ ✅ We are nearly a week in and still trying to find our new rhythm. Having a few scheduled activities to anchor our day (such as a play date or an @outschool class) plus a to do list of goals is what is working best so far. Because we are self directed learners, we have the kids help us with the goals list the night before so they have their own intrinsic motivation to get things done. When we are not doing scheduled activities or classes, everyone gets to choose what they are motivated to do on the list (and of course anything not on the list). 👏 👏 We will get there. Our new rhythm will emerge and we will find our new normal. But if I were to offer any advice to my friends finding themselves in a new homeschooling world it would be to relax your schedules and allow yourself and your children the gift of exploring their curiosities and find what really motivates them. •virtual play dates• This is going to be our lifeline during this time. Seeing, talking to & playing with our friends virtually is helping us to feel normal & happy. A little Pictionary today on Zoom today. 💻 👍 #socialdistancing #virtualplaydate #zoom

•social distancing• Settling into this new way of life. Yes, we were already homeschoolers before the schools shut down, but we had a very active social life that has also shut down. Now it’s lots of art making, book reading, game playing, gardening, walks, bike rides, and virtual play dates. My mental state is on a roller coaster. I find small pockets of normal feelings followed by a flood of fear. On repeat. But we wash our hands, keep our distance and carry on hoping to do our part in smashing the curve. 😷 👊🏻 #smashthecurve #socialdistancing #covid_19 #flattenthecurve

•First Irises• Eek!! It’s here. It’s that time of year when I love going on a hunt for all the sprouts bubbling up from my garden. Saying hello to my old friends who have been sleeping since last year and welcoming the new members of our garden family!
